A new dog can be a handful, and there are bound to be some crazy moments, but the better prepared you are, the easier it will go. Our new puppy checklist will help you remember all the things that you need to do to ensure a healthy, happy dog. Make those first few weeks special and memorable by being prepared and avoiding unnecessary stress...

New Puppy Checklist

  • Food - ask your breeder what food they have been feeding your puppy so that it has some continuity. Good food is essential for good health, and is foundational for your puppiers happiness.
  • Treats - essential for training, and a well-trained dog is a happy dog.
  • A bed - somewhere for your newest arrival to snuggle up and feel safe
  • Crate - the sooner you start crate training the easier it is, and sometimes a crate is the safest option for transport or safety.
  • Absorbent mats - to soak up any little accidents with a minimum of fuss and mess
  • Collar - by law a dog must have a collar and tag
  • Tag - with your phone number and address
  • Lead - to take your new friend on walks and to keep them safe
  • Bowls - for food and water
  • Toys - to keep them stimulated
  • Car harness - by law your dog must not be able to interrupt you whilst driving
  • Brush - to groom your dog, and keep their coat in perfect condition
  • Pet insurance - to cover the inevitable vet bills
  • Microchip - should be injected and registered at the puppies first vet appointment (your breeder will normally do this step, but you need to make sure you get the information)
  • Vaccinations - the breeder will normally arrange the first set. Ask them which vaccine is used, and enure that you get the appropriate follow on dose.
